Warm Weather Training - Safa

First a massive thanks for the top-up asda check and the support from Lesley, Eastleigh Asda.

I had an early christmas present, as i was invited to Stellenbosch, South Africa, to train for 3 weeks in January.

It meant doing more exams in May but it was really worth it.

I trained with the likes of Goldie Sayers, Dwain Chamers, Christian malcolm, Martyn Bernard, Kelly Sotherton and Kate Dennison.

I feel its really inspired me to train harder and I really want to break Goldie Sayers U20 Junior Uk Record this year as a first year.

Hope everyone has a great season.

One step nearer.

Today I turned 17 and I woke up to multiple cards on the table and the sparklers out as my mum usually does every birthday. To my amazement, my provisional driving licence was one of the cards laid out. A few weeks before my birthday I received a cheque from Asda from all the fundraisers they had done for me this year, which was very generous of them. This year, UKA had picked me for their futures funding programme and I was enjoyed to find out that I had finally been one of the athletes chosen. On one of my Birthday cards, me and my mum saw a quote which we thought I could use in the future. ‘The greater the obstacle, the more the glory in overcoming it’

Newcastle was the School Games Village for the first weekend in September, holding hundreds of athletes from several different sports.

I competed on the first night and threw 49m to grab the gold medal and breaking the Games record. It was a great weekend to end my season.

BBC - The one show with Usain Bolt.

Before flying to London Heathrow and leaving Singapore, we were given our Blue Peter Badges and congratulation letters for competing in the first ever World Youth Olympic Games. On the flight our team managers told us that we were going to be on the one show on the monday and would be meeting Usain Bolt!! The whole GB Team were so surprized and over joyed about it all.

On Monday we were waiting in the lounge for the rehersal and were shocked to find out that we had been walking past the TOP GEAR office several times and hadn’t even noticed.

All the athletes ran into the one show live lounge and were taken aback to how small the studio actually was! Overall the show was so much fun and obviously Bolt won the Ice-cream race. Everyone was on their tipy-toes to try and get thier face in the camera.

I actually got him to sign my Team GB Jacket and my polo shirt, but obviously my mum had to put it in the watch, what are mums like eh?

Sights Set at Singapore

Arrived at Holiday Inn on monday morning and received my GB Kit with the other athletes. Most of the athletes were gathered in the ‘chill out room’ playing Wii. I was appalling. After having the inspirational meeting by some ex-olympic athletes we had dinner before travelling to the airport. The flight was exhausting and long but thankfully I was sitting next to the GB rower, Caspar Jopling.

The Olympic Village was astounding and absolutely massive.

Today was my qualifying competition to split the group into Final A and B. Thankfully I produced a throw that qualified me into the A Final.

Hopefully I will produce something exciting in the Final on Sunday.

4 days until Singapore.

Everyone is counting down the hours untill the flight at Heathrow.

Last weekend, i threw a PB in the discus, 32m off a standing throw. I won the Shot, Disc and Javelin. My coach is on holiday so i’m trying to do what he’s advised and keep motivated on my own. I’m competing at the McCai Jumps and Throws Fest this weekend, hopefully i’ll throw a pb before flying out to Singas.

My mum noticed I’m on the list for the McCain UK challenge where the top 8 in each event compete at Cardiff for the BIG prize money. I’ll be in Singapore so won’t have the opportunity to earn big bucks.

I’ll also miss defending my U17 England Championship Title at Bedford and the BIG!! But thankfully, i have UKSG to look forard to when i return, where i hope to win gold again and beat the championship record.

Different Programme

Update…

Since my track closed for repairment my coach, Bill Bushell and I have been training differently and will be for the next couple of weeks. I have resorted to fitness training instead of Weight training which in some circumstances could be seen as a better approach to my summer schedual because I have to be light and fast instead of heavy and strong, which you should be in the winter. I would like to thank my coach for giving up his time to drive to training just for me, I really appreciate it.

Recently, my mum received a phone call asking if I would be abe to re-open the track for my athletics club, Southampton Athletics Club, which is a great honour and opportunity. Southampton have helped me so much and always involve me in all their matches and competitions. They generously gave me a very expensive Javelin which I am grateful for.

Last weekend I had two competitions but I wasn’t focusing on the distance, but on my technique. I won both competitions but I was disapointed with Saturdays performance because I did not achieve what I set out to do. Sunday was much better, as my father filmed my throws from behind. My throws were much better than saturday so overall I was pleased. Also, one of my team mates pulled out of the discus last minute so I signed myself in and pulled out a PB, which I was thrilled about. In the end, I was given NJAL athlete of the match.

This weekend I’m doing the NYAL Final which is being held in Barnet Coptall, one of my favourite Stadiums in the Country. I am also being involved in a McCain Roadshow in Bradford. They’re alot of fun, so if your around come along!

English Schools & International Schools Glory

English schools is one of my main competitons of the year and I always look forward to it as the atmosphere is fantastic. I came first with a new Championship record. This was my third gold medal at English Schools. If you come 1st of 2nd in the Intermediate age group you are selected to compete for England at the International Schools which were in Glasgow this year. The weather was awful but I finally pulled it out of the bag and threw another Championship Record and came 1st. Overall it was a great schools week.
