Inter Regional Track Championships

For the past three days I’ve been at Newport Velodrome, Competing for Wales in the Inter-Regional Track Championships, so this is just a blog to let you know how the Welsh team and I got on…

Day One – Boys and girls Scratch, Points and Sprint events. My first race was the scratch race, which is one of my favourite events, it was a really fast race, and was filled with attacks and different attempts to gain advantage during the 40 laps. In a fast and furious sprint finish I managed to get sixth place, with my team mate getting seventh place.

The boys event was just as exciting, where my team mate Zachary May took second place.

End of Season

Firstly, im sorry for my lack of blogging over the summer! It feels like i’ve hardly been home!

Back in the start of the summer was the National Road Championships. Unfortunateely I came down with a stupid cold a week before the race, meaning my preperation wasnt ideal, even though the race, which had quite a tough climb in it which really suited me. Three riders broke away early in the race when I was suffering, and I spent the rest of the race on my own, and rode to a fourth place, considering my illness I was happy with it.

The weekend later i left for Holland with a team of four other girls riding for GB, to a stage race in Assen. The race has a high level of competition, with riders from many countries competing. My favourite race was the ‘Classica’ race, which was a 65k road race on a very intresting route, including a long stretch of very rough cobbles! Overall in the Race I came 19th, which i was happy with for my first stage race abroad!

Season so far!

I just spent a very long time writting a very detailed blog about all my races so far this season, and then managed to delete the entire thing, don’t ask me how. This will have to be short and sweet as i have far too much revision to do and don’t have the time!

In my first races abroad at the end of march, i got a fifteenth in Holland, and a tenth in Belgium!

I missed the first national series as i was ill, so my first big uk race was the isle of man youth tour where i finished third overall after getting fourth in stages one and three, and third in stage two.

Hillingdon National series. After riding a hard race doing lots of work and putting in lots of attacks, i finished a disappointing ninth place.

Newport Track Omnium. After a good day of close racing I finished in third place, which i was very happy with.

Thruxton National series. Another race where i’ve made plenty of attacks and done alot of work where i have had a disappointing finish, this time in sixth place.

Got Halesowen Omnium next weekend which I am looking for a good result in, then also North West Youth tour the weekend after, which I am riding for Wales for!

thanks for reading, Becca :)

Workshop, Training, Racing.

Am in the middle of packing to go away to Belgium/ Holland this weekend and needed a break, so thought i’d update my blog :)

On Wednesday, i went to the Cardiff Workshop in Sophia Gardens! as i was on the programme last year, i knew what to expect, but was still slightly nervous as i am quite shy when i first meet new people! Jamie Baulch did a talk for us. i’ve already had a talk off him at school, and had already heard a few of his stories, but he was still absolutely hilarious, and inspirational at the same time! The talks on using Social Networking sites / blogging sites were also uselful, learning new ways to build up our profiles! oh and let’s not forget making our own human bike…

after the workshop i went straight to a session at the track in newport (which was very tough) which happened to be my last proper session, before going away with Talent team on the weekend!

i’ll make sure i’ll let you know on how i get on!

One last thing, Thank you to Asda/Sportsaid for my cheque! have already planned to buy a new helmet and Shoes with the money as mine are pretty wrecked now! And also thankyou to my store for my extra cheque form fundraising!

speak soon, Becca x

illness :(

I’ve been quite lucky really that this is the first time I’ve been really ill since a year last september, but its not really come at the best time. Was feeling a bit rough at a training session last thursday but thought it were just a wee cold but woke up much worse the following morning. Went for a trip to the doctors and came back with antibiotics for tonsillitis great. Thankfully I’ve only got a day left on them now, and I’m feeling much better, but will be a few days before I can get on the bike. Need to get back going as soon as I can as I have a few training camps coming up which will decide whether I get chosen for a trip to Belgium/Holland in the middle of march…

Winter training/Racing :)

hey there,

we’re well into the winter now, and i’ve got lots of news too!

back in October i found out i had got onto the Great Britain Talent Team for road and track. basically, the team is the youngest part of the great britain squad which helps to progress talented riders… as you could imagine im very happy with that! we have been on a few training camps already, and its good to have time to train with other talented bike riders!

onto the racing bit now..

i have completed in three of the Revolution track series, and i should be riding the next one in january too! i have had a good set of results including a second and a third place.

Cyclo Cross – i had a good start to the cross season with a third place in the first of the national series close behind second. in the second event a fourth place, followed by a sixth in the next. in yesterdays race i had a strong second place and i am currently in third place in the series.

i recently received money from my store after a fundraising session which went towards my new road bike – so thank you to asda :)

UK SCHOOL GAMES (:

this weekend i’ve been at the UKSG which is a big event sponsered by sainsbury’s to give young athletes a chance to see what it would be like to race at the olympic or commonwealth games. we stayed in uni accomodation and had to surrvive without our parents on hand to help us when something went wrong, which was a good experience and something to learn from!

the racing was really good, and i got three gold medals in the Team Criterium, Team Time Trial, and Team road race and to top it all off, Wales won overall!

was a really good weekend, with loads of really good experiences like interviews and a chance to talk to other athletes from different sports :)
